It's National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Look back at the 'date which will live in infamy'

The USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor is one of the most somber, haunting places I have experienced. In a tropical paradise, you stand over what is left of a massive battleship, sunk in shallow water and visible below the oil slicks on the surface of the gentle waves. The names of the hundreds of sailors entombed below are engraved on a wall before you. The setting invites you to remember or imagine the horrors of that morning, and those that followed.

Very few survivors of that attack remain with us today, less every year.

Never forget!

I had a great uncle at Pearl. He spent the attack in the brig from his partying the night before.

Thanks for posting. Bet he had some complicated feelings about that decision. Did he survive the war?
Yes. He almost lost his leg in Guadalcanal. Fell in love with an Australian nurse. He had an interesting war.

My grandfather joined the army day's after pearl harbor after he shipped out it was almost 5 years before he made it back home. He fought at guadalcanal, Saipan, Okinawa, and more. Came home bought just over 300 acres with the money he saved in the war ( he said there wasn't a damn thing to spend it on in the south Pacific) raised 4 kids my mother the youngest. When he died he owned over 30,000 acres not bad for a 6th grade education truly the greatest generation. I still live and farm on 214 acres of the orginal property. 20221207_132513.jpg20221207_132529.jpg20221207_132547.jpg
