NV 151-156 Deer

I drew the early season tag. When are you planning on scouting the unit?
I drew the same early tag, its my first tag ever. Just started hunting! Im so excited, its all a bit overwhelming. Ive been e-scouting on Onx but it all looks the same. I dont know where I should start or focus on.

I scouted this weekend for a day and a morning and saw about 25 deer and 4 bucks. What area are you starting in? Definitely the country all looks the same so I feel like the deer could be anywhere that has water somewhat nearby. I’ll be headed up with my buddy to start scouting Friday which gives a few more days of scouting before season opener.

Openly naming spots with their unit numbers on a public forum should be taken to PMs. When people Google search these units, threads like this come up in the search, putting your information about spots out there for anyone and everyone.

Being helpful is great, but do it privately.

It doesn’t let me private message people. I’m not from
Nevada so can only get drawn for a rifle tag anaverage close to every ten years

All I'll say is the area I hunted has been pretty shot out when it comes to quality bucks and many people know about it and hunt it. The biologist told me last year that the quality was going to tank in the next year or two because of tag increases.

From what I've gathered so far this appears to be the case.

Thanks for the intel. Sucks about the tag increases for when there aren’t tons of deer in there and they are mainly in certain pockets of country in those units given the terrain.

The deer will be fine.

Plenty of deer.

Good fawn recruitment where there are no horses.

I have lived in the area for almost 20 years. Its not all doom and gloom, by any stretch of the imagination.

Keep in mind area 15 is managed for 30 bucks to 100 does ratio, post hunt. (Per the wildlife commission directive from January 2024), Not trophy quality or age class.

Plenty of age class around.

But age class and trophy quality are not necessarily synonyms.

Fawns recruitment has been good for several years.

I spend a lot of time in 141, 152, 154, all year.. trail cameras in the spring, lion hunting, chukar hunting, rock hounding.

The deer are there, but it is not a high density area. Its just a bit of an odd area in a lot of ways, but its fun to hunt.

Wide open, can glass for miles, and amazing where deer can hide in the wide open landscape.

Biggest problem is the horses.

have you tend to find them more in the juniper areas, rocks and sage or the concentrated areas of aspens?

Im not going to go into details.

Let's just say...

Some things you have to burn boot leather, wear out some tires and front ends, get stuck a little, and figure stuff out.

I know that sounds harsh. I like helping people, and I do on a regular basis.

But this is not an area you can effectively e-scout, or go off or "norms"

These questions really needed to be asked and answered from the time draw results came out until now.

15 ER and 15 ML were my first 2 choices this year. I drew my third choice, which is also local to me, and I was successful, with my daughter by my side.

I had trail cameras out in March, and hunted the areas all winter, noting deer sign, not to mention all the years of knowledge I already have, in anticipation of the upcoming season.

It gets frustrating when people just "show up" the week before the tag starts and want specifics, with no history on this forum at all.

Hunt starts Sunday.

Good luck guys.
