Caught them for the first time north of Jasper on my way home from a hunt in Northern BC. It was about 1 in the morning, with a bright moon so the old man (who had never seen them in his 67 years on the planet) pulled over and watched the show for about 15 minutes.
Years ago I rented a little farmhouse out towards Amsterdam, just west of Bozeman.Private road, with free roam to do what ever, mostly hunt Huns.Point though was this house had a raised view of the entire Bridger range. One clear winter night I watched the Northern Lights dazzle over the mountains.I will never forget that display. The range seemed to be a giant stage set with the sky overhead some masterful act of shimmering light. One of those moments.
Be aware you might already have seen them - down here most of the time it just a greenish glow along the NE horizon. If you look closely you can sometimes see it flickering around. The bright moon is really going to cut into what can be seen.
