Busting cattail sloughs, sweet clover and shelterbelts on private, CRP and PLOTS lands produced five bucks and eight does for a hunting party of nine.

The armament:
Weatherby Mark V Synthetic Lightweight 280 Remington Ackley Improved 40 degree 24" barrel
Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm Leupold QR mounts and rings
154 grain Hornady Interbond seated to 3.36" COAL
Remington brass
CCI 250 primers
60.5 grains WMR
2950 fps

The particulars:
This same buck was passed up by my host when kicked out from an earlier cattail slough about twenty minutes before we kicked him out again and I shot him. He jumped out of the slough at 75 yards running perpendicular to me. I over led him with my first shot. Then he turned and ran quartering away into another slough. At about 100 yards I lined up on his far shoulder and let fly. In the scope I could see he dropped immediately and did not continue running out of the otherside of the slough up toward the sweet clover rise he was headed towards. Apparently he spun around when hit because he was facing towards where he was running from.
