2nd day in a row for afternoon thunder showers around me. 01" yesterday.
Forecast from NOAA is for good monsoons in NM this year....finally,for a change. Update they say mid month.
The sweet smell of life on long dry ground is heaven!!
Hope they get here soon !!! Looking out this morning I can see huge clouds of smoke coming from a new fire on the Mescalero res not far from Ruidoso.... Soldier Canyon fire. They have highway 70 closed and evacuating people .
Ken, the forecast shows the Gila & your stomping grounds getting the most. I got another .03" yesterday & more on Sat. now.
Watched a video from the Gila-FS, from the Smoke spotter who called in the Buzzard fire from Eagle Peak LO. 84,lived here his whole life & has never seen it this dry in the Gila.
I sat until dark enjoying the scent of life. Elk freeways to the tank got clogged a bit....
Have you picked out your elk on the his or her way to the pond. Droughts are horrible. In the right situation you have wonderful viewing opportunities.
We have had a couple of nice rains here in the desert. At least an inch, two weeks apart. Saved me a day of watering trees.
I love your title of a NM life. You were one of the smart individuals who chose that life. I truly admire that fact.
Bobbydean, I do not have any picked out...lol
Long time to Oct too & anything can happen. Besides I gave all my elk tags to folks I know this year. Might get a OTC deer tag for my place, but I think I will take the 1st hunting season off in many years.
I did see the big boy a couple months ago mid day,but once again had no camera. He was still carrying his rack then. He split when I went to get my camera.
Been seeing a group of 8cows & 6calves playing in the tank in morning, but they go out to the north at 1st lite.
The freeways are new trails from the mesa to the east. One old one now looks like the cattle path that cuts diagonally across my place to the windmill, 2ftwide & 6" deep. The new trails are 12"x4" already.
Very hot today here, rare.I'm hunkered inside w/ac actually on...lol Rio sprawled out on the floor.
NM siesta time...lol
