On New Year's Eve I'll be hitting the road from home in Michigan to spend a few days on my first upland hunt in KS! I've had this hunt in my mind for nearly 20 years and it's routinely been shuffled aside for other hunts. Things have worked out that I'm finally going to make it happen.
A gentleman who I helped mentor to get his Michigan woodcock banding permit has graciously shared several locations that he's has success on pheasant & quail, including scaled.
I'll stop in Des Moines for the night on New Year's Eve then make my way to hunt a couple of spots in central KS before reaching my destination a ways south of Dodge City. I'm planning a couple of days hunting the far southwest of KS & a couple around where I'm staying. That leaves one day open to go again where I've had the most luck. All public ground.
This will be my dog's & my first time hunting pheasant & quail on the prairie. Should lead to some interesting learning. My expectations are that we may bump more than point but it'll be fun. Just hoping for a safe return.
Hopefully I'll have pictures to share!
