Well that doesn't sound very sporty. Scratch that idea. I was more along the lines of a guy that just shoots a bunch of deer by hunting.
That sounds like a turkey shoot! They should at least test the deer and donate the meat...

MN HAS used sharpshooters at times.
They DO test all the deer shot--whether by hunters or sharpshooter.
Those killed by sharpshooters--They CAN"T donate the meat until tests come back. They do at that time if the test is negative.
The most aggressive culling I have seen in the state was during the Bovine TB outbreak in the NW many years back.
They hit deer hard then.
Hunters up in arms.
Needlessly-- In a year or two deer numbers were right back.
More often than not it's just some initial sharpshooting or testing requirements then hunters are allowed a bit more freedom to take multiple deer. Sometimes during special seasons.Can't eliminate deer and that's not the objective--the objectives are to test liberally and get an idea of prevalence, if high then keeping population lower could come into play.
The news release today said 98 percent of the hunters taking part in the SE special CWD control hunts take no more than two deer--and there aren't many that hunt in these hunts. No herd decimation is occurring.

There, professional wildlifers were ignored by politicians. Their advice was ignored. Game farmers--linked to the problem direclty in many cases--had legislators ears. Politicians there also supported the rabid hunters who didn't know reality.
The result--HIGH incidence of CWD in many places--way too late to gain any control. CWD hits mature shooter bucks especially hard--they don't get that old anymore.
