Last Saturday saw us on our fallow ground for an afternoon stalk.
Pretty quiet, cold wind kept them in the woods. Time was getting on and the light was starting to go.
Then caught a glimpse in the thermal of a muntjac making its way along the wood edge.
A nice little buck, a whistle made him pause long enough to get a shot off at around 70yards. Muntjac don't tend to stop very long at all when feeding. Constantly moving.
A nice freezer filler that's been made into burgers.
Packed into the roe sack. Good job my lad came along to carry it 😉

Nice work; my next cup of coffee will be spent googling Muntjac, love learning new stu
They were bought over from the far East about 150years ago for private deer collections.
They escaped or released and now cover a good part of Southern and central England.
Amazing little deer. Never stop for more than a second or two while browsing. Hey also have tusks that are in the top jaw like K9 teeth, razor sharp. They have been known to attack dogs if they feel threatened or cornered. They will open up a dogs side with their tusks.
This one was 20lb hook weight. Head and feet off, skin on.
The venison a very good from muntjac.
A picture of a high silver medal head showing the tusks
