I drew the 300-50 mule deer back tag this year. I know the area fairly well, I also know quality doesn’t seem to be what it once was. I’d like to see some of the bucks that have come out of there in recent years for a general idea of what will be a realistic goal.

Butte actually. Been applying 14 years. I know most of the area so I’m not looking for spots. Like I stated I’d like to see pics of bucks taken out of the area to have an idea of a realistic category. My dad had the tag in 2020 but we didn’t get to hunt it as hard as we planned due to health issues. He did manage to pull a buck out though

It’s basically a general unit from 20 years ago.

I've heard you need to get them in archery. If you wait too long they all end up in a different state.

I joined a buddy in that unit in 2020.
He killed the biggest buck he saw which was 165”.

I drew for myself in 2021, killed the best buck I saw which was 160”.

I would say 160”-170” is a realistic goal, with a few bigger taken each year.

That’s what I was thinking would be a realistic type of deer. I have seen some bigger ones over the years but that’s been a long time ago.

Lots of deer. Lots of 3x4 130-150 type bucks with weak backs. Fun hunt for the first couple trips. If you see a 160-170, you’re going to want to paste him.

How did it go for you? I know two guys that had the tag that pulled out mid 140's bucks. One shot the first buck he saw I guess. Would like to hear how it went for you.

Was chatting at the bar Saturday night before the season ender with an old local who had looked at 100s of bucks that season. He was going to go out Sunday but was prepared to not shoot anything. He said he hadn't seen much above a 140.

We told him he should put his tag on a doe.
