I'm a poor old fart who's been living in a little cabin/homestead, I built in the talkeetna mtns of Alaska. I've been here just shy of 20 years and I'm in my mid 60's now...
I haven't done everything I want to do here in AK, but there is time for that before I leave. I'm looking to relocate to South Dakota... I'd like to find a place to settle that is rural.... low cost of living.. I have a limited income at the moment, so everything I will do will be a bit out of the box and unconventional... which is right down my alley.
I'd like it to be in an area that offers fishing... There is limited fishing here unless you want to wait for salmon/dollies, or go fishing for trout (just different colored salmon... boring)...
My estimated time frame to leave is approximately 14-18 months..
I love the hill's but don't want to live there.. (to popular).... and expensive as well I'm sure)....
I have to figure out what to do with my homestead. I'm putting it on the market, but I'd probably be better off leasing or trying a land swap... There is little chance it would sell conventionally in my time frame. I'll more than likely be relegated to renting a small chunk of land, or being a vagabond..... have horse trailer will travel...
I'm looking for fishing and hunting opportunities.... everything I thought I'd never miss.. white tail, squirrel, pike, crappie, are the things of my dreams now... the ability to walk my property without running into a sow and cubs is a plus as well...
.
I'll be traveling light.... small van (probably), and my trailer (2 horse)... my fav ATV and a canoe.... (or 2.. love my canoes).....
There is way to much to say in just one post so I'll leave it at this...
Any input or advice I can glean off of you wise hobbits is much appreciated.... If interested we can converse directly...
Thanks much, and happy hunting.....
p.s. all pics are from the homestead or within a few 100 yards....
