Well what a walk. The wife and i went for a hike to coloma ghost town here by the house now i never see bear my wife always see bear all the time but today on way back we ran into a sow and cub cool huh well the dog decided he was gonna get that cub against me yelling like a maniac and that sow was having no part of that good thing that dog is fast and all she got was the tail. And guess what momma does that maternal instinct kicked in i call it stupidity but anyway she runs to save the dog meanwhile im trying to get the gun out which is on my belt in holster trapped by my backpack so i have to unhook backpack and get to holster pull gun out and fire in the air. The sow runs off 50 yards and stands up to make sure we the dog aint chasing cub so i give one more shot in the air and off they go. Wow that was close good thing it didnt charge us cause i learned i aint john wayne and a quick draw guess i learned a good lesson at no ones expense. I had bear spay but it was in the backpack cause i never see bears but i guess it only takes one time. It sure was funny now since nobody got hurt including the dog.

Scary.

3 years ago I was walking back to the truck after dark, and a cub confused me for mama. When mama figured it out she was pissed. A few loud shouts resolved the issue, but the encounter was in my head the next few nights walking out.

wow that was a long first sentence;) It's a good thing the shots scared them off, or it might have been who can run the fastest:eek:

Well understand that now. Wonder how many guys hunting have run into this situation and how they handled it.

I soiled myself, and ran crying like a little girl the two miles back to the pickup. True story.

leash or train your dog better. (although ankle biters aren't always teachable). never ran into anything on a hike out. But I reached down to pet what I though was a cat; smelled something funny as I petted it. Wife turned on the porch light and low and behold it was a skunk. Glad it liked being petted and not spraying.

No anklle biter here it was my chocolate lab and he is pretty welll trained i was letting him try and get up some grouse cause thats what he loves to do . He knows hunting season is around the corner to so we take him to get him legged up.
