An egotistical bunch for sure. Their is a whole heirarchy to the local blinds of whose been hunting them the longest even though they are public and I won't even try to get into that scene. I had a good private spot I could hunt and always shoot something and once my uncle sold that I pretty much gave up. I'm never seen so much jealousy and competition here as I see among the local duck hunters.

I remember you posting that spot. I have a very similar spot. I cam sometimes scratch out a limit sometimes shoot 1 but i don't have to compete. I use to have permission to hunt just under a thousand acres of good fields close to a huge roost. Then ome other guy's started hunting it too. Probably my first mistake was being generous and not wanting to step on toes. They weren't very reciprocal, so I just washed my hands of it and walked away. Not my cup of tea.

I know a guy who quit fishing tournaments because his competition was doing this and beating him and it ruined the sport of it for him. This was 25 years ago. The days are long gone .

Yep losing it sucked. A guy bought it and just flipped it and made money and moved on. I wasn't in a position to buy it so had some good times there though.

Some of us still do. Same for hunting. Took two young local kids out today waterfowl hunting. There grandpa was a hunter and passed and they seem eager to learn. Trying to teach that as we go.

I know that feeling too. Thought about that a lot today as far as where are my kids gonna hunt 20 years from now. Unless we win the lottery or move very far, the outlook is pretty bleak

I totally understand that. I've thought about the same. Of all the places I hunted growing up only one of them is still even in the family or owned by people I know. Fortunately I have moved closer to a large chunk of public. We didn't have a single acre of public in the entire county I grew up in. I've got a good amount where I am now. I hope to introduce my oldest to chasing squirrels on the public here this fall over my brothers dogs.

Same. We've got a couple good sized public pieces where I live now as well. But with Chicago only being a couple hours away. I dont even know if I feel safe walking through there during archery let alone gun season. I wish I was kidding.

It's not too bad here. I'm between the two biggest cities Charlotte and Raleigh but there isn't an insane amount of hunters still much tougher than the private I grew up on to take kids and ease them into hunting though with no chance of running into others.
