Anyone out there build there own plucking machine? I've got a few ideas but I'm wondering if there's any experience out there y'all might be willing to share. Pro's and con's.

The fowl plucker by lucky buck has me intrigued as a diy project. I can't get the video to download and link in to this conversation but it's worth a look.

We raise and home butcher 300 - 500 Cornish Cross a year, and have one of these - PLUCKER.

Depending on how many birds you're going to do, the price tag is worth it. It was mentioned before, keep a lot of water flowing through, and have a means to take care of the pile of feathers that will inevitably build up on the ground.

I didn't' build it myself but a buddy has one that uses a power drill with the rubber "plucking fingers" and a box with a hole for shop vac attachment. pretty simple and cheap but effective

That's along the lines of what i'm thinking. Hearing that it is effective is the big question i'm working to figure out. I appreciate your response.

I built a wizbang type plucker and it worked great. Keep lots of water running with a hose and hand sprayer and do not run it to long and keep the speed at what it should be when building if anything a little slower will work but faster will beat the snot out of your birds.. The biggest thing is to get them scalded properly.

Also if you make on make a way to protect the motor even if it's rated for outdoor/water applications you'll thank me later..

The one I built worked good for chickens, ducks and turkeys it did 99%+ of the plucking and usually you only needed a couple of minutes to get what was left..

I believe this thread is where I got this info on the plucker. Obviously I had forgotten most of its content. I appreciate you bringing it back around for a refresher. Now to order the rest of the parts I need. time for a summer project.

Think ill have to make something too. I’ve got 50 meat birds showing up in a couple weeks. Makes for long time plucking those birds by myself

I modified how I plucked birds last year to just the breast and legs then cut them off skin on. It was quicker but still hard on the fingers.
