Old well. Not sure if it's an old oil well or something else but interesting sight. I see a lot of deer in these trees when I am hunting. Private land with no hunting signs so they know they are safe here.
West of Melrose on a rough rocky mountain road in the remote heart of the Pioneer Mountains is Glendale, a ghost town that had been busy in the late 1800s, smelting ore from the Hecla Mine. The smelter was fired by charcoal produced by 23 large ( about twenty feet tall) Canyon Creek Kilns which slowly charred big logs into the charcoal then hauled by wagons over a high pass to Glendale (from 1884 to 1900).
