guide alaska

i am curious if anybody that posts here is a certified guide or has knowledge of in alaska. i know i need to apprentice under a guide up there but is there any way to knock out the academic side of of the certification from across the country? I am stationed in virginia so my opportunities to get up there are few and far between.
