For Sale:

One hell of a nice mountain rifle, chambered in the potent .284 Winchester.

Action, bottom metal and trigger is a Sako L579 (short action).

Barrel is 22". Unknown make. To my eye, the bore is bright, the rifling sharp.

I believe the stock is a McMillan. LOP = 13.5". Stock is bedded to the action.

Trigger is simply perfect. A crisp 2.75lbs.

Weight with bases, rings, scope and sling show 8.1 pounds on my digital bathroom scale.

I was told the original owner had it custom built from McMillan in the mid 1980's, but I can not find any McMillan marks anywhere on the action, barrel or stock.

Original owner hunted sheep, goats, deer and elk with it. It has bangs, scrapes, dings, to show for it.

Accuracy: I've fired the rifle 5 times with factory WW 150 grn. 1.5" groups at 100 yards. I'm sure it'll tighten up with some load development.

With the short magazine, I do not believe high BC bullets would be compatible.

For $1150, I'll ship the rifle, sling, and rings to your FFL from a private individual. Ships insured, in a hard plastic case.

Pictured scope Leupold Freedom 3-9x40 CDS available to the buyer for an additional $250.

Factory ammo, RCBS dies, Nosler 140 gr Partitions, and a pile of WW brass available to the buyer for additional cost.

Reason for selling....I accidentally looked through some Swarovski NLs. If the rifle sells, I'll make that jump, if not, I'll gladly keep the rifle and the current SLCs.

That's a dangerous game. Those things are truly incredible. The 12's?

284 Winchester is the ballistic equivalent of the 280 Rem.

If a person is not into reloading, there are better options for cartridges.
