Dark Woods Bucks - How to hunt?

I’m currently on the last two days of a Wyoming deer hunt in the mountains. I’ve hunted mule deer in the low country, sage brush type environment. Great fun.

How the heck do you hunt October bucks in the dark woods mountains? Every where is blowdowns or deep timber. We have found deer at lower elevation, but there has to be some better bucks in the timber. Anyone have any tips? I now understand why people don’t hunt early October.
