Question for you guys. We have been archery elk hunting past 3-4 years in northern Colorado and this year planning to hunt 3rd season rifle. I know the weather can sometimes get dicey at higher elevation. But my question is are the forest roads opened in the fall get closed during the winter or are the open and just travel at your own risk?

Thanks for the response,

You have to check that specific FS's MVUM and see when the roads closed. Carry 4 sets of chains and a shovel that time of year at a minimum.

Road closures vary, there is a little bit of both. Figure out what national forest you are hunting in and then pull the motor vehicle use map for that area, if you get stuck trying to navigate the website just google "xxxxx forest MVUM" the map will give seasonal closures in the legend.

Example... this may or may not be your area.
