Hey guys, new member to this forum. previously used a california based forum but now that i have started going to multiple states this seems like the place to be. I will be headed to 3/301 for 3rd season with my dad and grandpa. we will be staying in my 5th wheel at the northern part of the zone. my grandpa and i were there about 10 years ago with elk tags in 2nd season but did not harvest. (in hindsight there was alot i did not know back then and we didnt scratch the surface of what we should have been doing.) Anyways, i dont rember too much about the area other than it is checkboard public/private. i plan on hunting the areas shown on the dfw website as migration routes. i will focus on areas bordering private with good feed and nearby water/cover. If anybody has any advice they are willing to share it would be greatly appreciated. Hope to contribute some stories to the forum as A zone opens here pretty soon and im itching to get out there!

also, the tanks on my 5th wheel are not insulated and i know its going to be cold. You guys think they will be ok or have any tips to keep them from freezing up?

from California,

Smitty

You should have good luck in those units. I saw a lot of deer there last year. Most tanks have heaters built in, so as long as you have a power source you should be ok. If not drain the tanks and put RV antifreeze in them and just don't use any water.

Never hunted those units so I'm not much on help but welcome and good luck this fall!

thanks guys. There are no heaters on my tanks. I will use the antifreeze in my grey/black tanks but i may just try to insulate my freshwater tank before we go. good luck to you guys as well.

Smitty, I'll be hunting that same unit during 2nd season. This will be my first time also but keep in touch and I'll be glad to share what we see and learn while out there. Like you, we plan to focus on the northern part of the zone in either big hole or pole gulch STLs. I've done a lot of research and posted several threads on here on this unit in the past year so if you have any question feel free to shoot them over or look at some of those other threads.

Thanks! I will go check out your threads. Good luck this year. I'm sure I will have some questions as we get closer.
