New to this deal. This is my first year out in Oregon and I pulled a tag for Elk and Deer in the Maury unit. I've been looking over some maps and have made a trip out there to get a feel for the area. I'm thinking the eastern side of the unit in the wilderness study areas seem like the best bet being there is a lot of BLM and not too many roads in the wsa. The Elk hunt is late October and the deer hunt is at the end of September. Other than the BLM blocks on the east of the unit there is a chunk of forest service in the north. I was also looking at a couple of ag fields in the south and the east. Hoping maybe someone could confirm my suspicions about good starting points in the unit or if anyone has experience in the unit.
Thanks.

ODFW resources...

Here's a link to the ODFW hunt map where you can choose different layers to better define unit boundaries and land owners. I don't know this unit, but would start in the timber for elk and the transition between timber and sage for deer. Hope this link helps.
