I finally broke down and bought a bear tag today, so the five day wait is on. I guess I was just wondering if any of you out there could give me a clue on what to look for, where to go around the Bozeman area. Bear hunting is new to me never done it so any help would I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Just keep your eyes open while out hunting elk. They are out and are rummaging around right now. I've mostly seen them from mid mountain to timberline in the fall. They are eating pine nuts and what ever else they can find for winter. Good luck.

What dunc said, the few I've seen so far this fall have been up high, with most of the fresh scat being full of huckleberries.

What you need to do is watch the police reports LOL. Apparently they are all over in city limits....there are 1-2 reports a day of bears in town in the chronicles police reports, I go and look in the woods and cant find em but drive around south Bozeman in the AM looking for dumped garbage cans. They are all over town!

Might not be a bad idea to kill an elk, and then hunt your gut pile for a few days ;)

They LOVE choke cherrys as well. I got mine last month feeding with other bears (yes it was full of bear) in an area with a TON of choke cherrys.
