With the recent discussion of bear attacks, I ran into this video on YouTube. The speaker knows his stuff and presents really sensible information on bear safety.

Good video, I bought that book when I was 12 visiting Banff. When I worked with captive bears in college it was amazing how well they responded to verbal commands, all of them, just like trained dogs. Like dogs, some of them would be more willing or reluctant to obey, but they all understood.

Even the wild ones remind me of dogs sometimes. I remember watching a cub brown bear chew on and play with an old buoy in the river when the tide was really low. He'd roll over on his back and shake his head with the buoy just like a awkward young pup playing with a toy.

Thanks for the share! Lots of good info in a short video.

I’m planning my first backcountry hunt and this answered a lot of questions!
