Am considering purchasing an Essential Arms AR 15....know nothing about AR's or the brand. Any info appreciated. .223 cal.

I like Rock River Arms for uppers and lowers. Yankee Hill Machine for everything else. I like a flat top, flip up detachable sights, Fixed 4 power scope, quick detach rings, 2 stage match trigger, 16"-18" .750 or heavier barrel, free float tube. AR-15 are a kick in the A$$.

I've built several over the years. Most have changed configurations but I don't have any new pics on this computer. There are much better brands than Essential Arms available. Are you looking for a plinker or for varmit hunting? Do you want a carbine or rifle?

NHY-

What do you want to do with it? They are alot of fun to shoot, and make great coyote killers. I have quite a bit of experience with DPMS, Colt, and Patriot Ordnance. I might lean away from Essential Arms as I have never heard of them. I own a DPMS carbine and a DPMS Special Purpose Rifle.

Real quickly. You have 2 big choices direct Impingment vs. piston drive and carbine vs full length.

DI- Pros: more accurate Cons: dirtier/more frequent cleaning
Piston- Pros: reliable like an AK/can run long without cleaning Cons: slight loss in accuracy, proprietary systems (less interchangeabe of parts)

As for length, carbines can be very accurate (mine shoots sub-moa), but a full length will give you a little more velocity and a longer sight radius. I also feel like it is a more stable platform for longer shooting.

Well, I bought it. Talked to the guy who built it for the guy I bought it from. Once fired Essential Arms lower, 20" barrel, removable sights, an Eotech Illum Quick Acquisition sight, 2- 30 round and 1- 20 round clip. 400 rds of 223 ammo. 800 bucks a fair price?

Thanks for the input and pics. I like the top WV pic also.

.....here's a crappy phone pic of my new urban and suburban yote device.

Any pointers on a QR ring and scope combo?

A good friend of mine bought one last year, don't recal the brand right off... but it came with a couple free hats.

For an A4 type set up I would put an Acog TA31, but it doesn't sound like you want a battle rifle. Not sure what you would want for yotes.
