The mystery of a burgled bear statue in Fountain Hills has owner Phyliss Kern "very, very angry."
The metal bear figure, worth about $4,000, was stolen Tuesday afternoon at Kern's plaza near Highway 87 and Shea Boulevard."He was as cute as a button," said Kern, a real estate agent.
The beast was among the many statues and knick-knacks on display in the front the plaza, which includes Kern's real estate office and other agencies.
"Everything else is all chained down," she said.
Weighing nearly 600 pounds, Kern wonders how the thief hauled the heavy statue away. She guessed that it might have been sold at a salvage yard.
"Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought anyone would come and get it," said Kern, a Fountain Hills resident for 30 years.
She bought the bear at an antique store recently in Colorado. He is irreplaceable, Kern said, and she wants him back.
A reward is being offered. Anyone with information is asked to call Kern's
