airline rates and coupons

Why do the rates change daily for gods sake... I am looking at booking a vacation for Xmas and the rates are 100 bucks higher than last night.
anyone have any coupons they will not be using? trying to get the rates under 500$ if possible.

Check on ebay... I've seen vouchers for $50 and $100 go for about half price, or less.
