The bad news: I'll only hunt waterfowl one more day this year.

The good news: We have ducks coming out our ears.

We got to the field today around 11 am expecting to find a bare field, but with the cold weather the ducks decided to take a different schedule and were feeding madly when we pulled in the approach. We bumped the birds off the field, set up the spread as quick as possible (not only to get ready for the birds, but it was COLD!), and got the trucks off the field.

Once we were set, the birds did everything but pull the trigger themselves. We hardly had to call (I turned a flock with a highball mouthcall hump ), and the birds were landing all around us when we gave them a chance. The only difficult part of the day, aside from the cold, was trying to pic drakes out of the flock since they would finish with the sun directly behind them and unfortunately several hens were killed.

We could tell the day was going to end way too soon, so most of the birds were shot with one guy shooting a bird out of each flock. Within 15 minutes of getting the dekes out of the field, the field filled up with ducks again (they're waiting for us tommorow :D

Six man limit of ducks (42) and a pair of honks was the damage on the day.
