    Montana Moose & Mental Fortitude

Brilliant mate. Couldn’t be happier for you. Both of you will have some great stories from your efforts and commensurate rewards this year. Enjoy every second of it! 👏🏼

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

This is primo 🤌🏽. @Nameless Range You hit it on the head. Anecdotal data is still data. It may not have unique identifiers and you may not find it on an interfaced query in a neat stack or bar graph, but it is raw data. So FWP is slow to respond and the changes don’t match what the majority of...

    Wounded animal meat safety #2

Couldn’t agree more, save the necropsy for the ready and willing after you get the harvest cooling and out of the oven. It is fairly apparent at initial inspection as to health of the animal and fitness of the meat for consumption.

@BeartoothFront Keep us posted on the rest of your season, not much of it left!

    Wounded animal meat safety #2

@MontanaHunter222 In all seriousness, your harvest will likely be intact with the exception of the local injury at the site of entry and potential exit depending on the projectile path. There is most likely going to be some hemorrhage/hematoma in the front right quarter based on the image...

    Wounded animal meat safety #2

Just coat your arrows in Ancef and shoot to wound again, then one week later shoot to kill. The antibiotics will have had time to clear the infection from the first disaster. All joking aside, you’re likely fine, if the buck is behaving normally and showing rutting behavior then it likely is...

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

@DougStickney Fair enough. Humbled once again. How is it so disparate in the data collection for an entire region?

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

But we do, right that’s the argument here. It seems that the FWP is doing their job, the contention is that it’s just too late. Not necessarily too little too late. Just too late. Time will tell. I can tell you after reading about half of what was suggested just for region 4 2024/2025 regulation...

Montana Deer Management- If I were King for a day.

Not to bring up an old thread that has likely been beaten to death, but how many people have vetted this to their local FWP officers and actually shown up at some of the general public meetings with this proposal. I may be a bit late to the game, but it’s never too late to start.

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

I’m not arguing that fact. It would be illogical to magically assume that in the face of increasing hunting pressure, herd size and quality should increase. Cutting tags is an appropriate measure in my opinion as well. At least for a time, then reassess.

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

Having only hunted mule deer since 2019 in this state. I can’t offer much in the way of firsthand knowledge about overall herd integrity and sustainability from a past perspective looking forward. What I can offer though is anecdotal accounts from veteran hunters who have been at it for 4...

    Make Bison Hunting Great Again

@YoungGun Impressive detail of your hunt. Loved every minute of it. Was poking around the interwebs to research griz populations in the Pioneers or lack thereof and stumbled across this site and this thread. Followed along starting with your October 31 opener and was hoping and praying that it...
