Excellent write-up. Fine looking boy, and a shotgun well taken care of.

    Muzzle loader bag

I just carry a couple or 3 of those ready load plastic tubes, which has powder, a bullet, and a primer.. also carry a ball starter in my day pack. This is for a day hunt to my deer stand. For a several day elk hunt I carry more stuff, but I leave it in my tent or vehicle. Ymmv.

    Winchester SX4 Hybrid finish?

I bought a new sx4 just like yours, but thought it felt too bulky for me, so I gave it to a son in law. He loves it. Uses it for ducks, geese, and pheasant. He's a good shot too. I also had an sx3, which I gave to a grandson. He also uses it for everything. They are both great gas guns.

WTB Old Remington 870 WINGMASTER 20 ga for grandson project.

I have a 14 year old grandson who wants to re-do a 20ga Wingmaster. The overall condition is not important, as long as it cycles properly. If you have an old 20 ga wingmaster, please let me. Thanks for looking.

Muzzleloader recommendation for elk under $1500

You can use inline MLs in Colorado. As previously mentioned, the bargain priced MLs at Walmart are more than sufficient. Just get one with open sights. Powerbelt bullets are very popular in Colorado due to sabots being forbidden. I've used 348gr powerboats to take 7 or 8 elk. First ML was...

    Ruger 77 Redux

Brother, that looks like outstanding work. If I weren't so old and satisfied with the rifles I already have I'd get you to make one for me. Excellent attention to detail. Congratulations.

A non typical elk gun thread

If I wanted a new rifle, and wanted to hunt everything in north America with that one rifle, I'd get a 30-06. It's already done it all, and will continue to do so in the years to come. Ymmv.

    Dating advice. Older women?

I'd walk away. For me, the age difference is a bridge too far. Lots of women out there looking for a decent man. Time to start over.

Retirement: When would you like to retire? Do you have a plan to get there?

I retired at age 46, after 26 years in the Army. I then taught college for 10 years, then retired from that profession. No regrets at all. Obviously the biggest concern is having the finances to live as you did before retirement. Retirement is great. Go for it as soon as you can.

    Powder/Bullet Combo for Elk

I used to ml hunt Colorado and always used 348gr powerboats with pyrodex powder. Killed a couple of bulls and several cow elk. I always hunted dark timber so no shots over 100 yards. Lots of options to select from.

    Elk rifle

Take the one you shoot the best. As a side note, a 270win with a 150gr partition will kill any elk you encounter. It also won't kick the heck out of you. Regardless, have a good hunt.

New Member, First Elk hunt. School Me !!

Watch the wind, always the wind. Just me but I wouldn't use an eldx. Partition, accubond, ttsx would be my choice. Hunt for a bull but be willing to settle for a cow as imo they eat better. Good luck.
