Elk Rifle
Looking at 30-06 for dual purpose of elk and whitetail. I’ve always been a “tried and true” over “bells and whistles” guy, but a flat lander like me appreciates a lightweight rifle in the mountains. Tikka superlight? Browning x bolt? Howa? Just looking for opinions!- Midwesterman

Colorado elk costs rise
At $803.39 in 2024, that's $2.20 a day of savings. That's less that the price of a gas station coffee and donut...Expensive, yes, but not too bad if you look at the daily breakdown.- Midwesterman

How long did it take for your first elk?
Year two this year and hopeful it happens this time around. Had a lot of encounters first year but had to rush the only guy with a cow tag down the mountain on night three due to altitude sickness. Too bad we were in a herd of cows two days after that...- Midwesterman

30-06 Brand recommendation
Go with what's most comfortable for you both physically and financially. I've always been someone who hunts within their budget. Practice, comfort, and experience are top of my list. Winchester 30-06 has dropped numerous whitetail where they stand. Same goes for my "purchased used" Ruger .270...- Midwesterman
