Thanks for the advice, simple and most likely very realistic results

    Ramshot Hunter

Thanks for the advice. I’ll have to see if there is a range near where I’m going to recheck zero after my long trip. I’m most concerned with velocity drop from hot to colder temps which will effect longer range performance. I’m also testing 168gr TTSX which require more velocity to open...

    IMR 4350 to H4350 in 30-06

I’m a big fan of H4350 but it’s kinda hard to find right now. I’ve found an acceptable replacement in IMR 4451. I’ve seen testing that indicates it performs pretty well with temp swings.

    Ramshot Hunter

Ramshot’s handloading guide has some pretty impressive loads for 30-06 so I thought I’d try it out with some 165gr Accubonds. Anyone have any excessive temperature sensitivity issues with this powder while hunting elk in cold temps? I am loading in Alabama and hope to use them in Colorado this...

    My fellow 7mm-08 reloaders...

After reading about Hammers on here I would definitely like to try them out. I have a good amount of reloading components on hand right now, so I probably won’t be buying anything new to try for a while though. Yesterday I tried some Barnes in my 7mm08 and I was impressed with the results. I...

    Ultimate Deer Rifle

My REM 700 in 7mm08 is one of my favorite rifles. I just worked up some loads using 120gr TTSX and I’m getting 3,178 fps.

    160 gr Accubond for 7mm-08

I know this thread is old but I thought I’d share my results. I worked these loads up to use in 2020 for my OTC elk hunt. Remington 700, 24” bbl, Hornady virgin brass, Remington 9 1/2 primer, Nosler 160gr Accubond(.531 BC), and 2.830” O.A.L. H4350= 2,675 fps Winchester StaBALL 6.5= 2,815 fps...

    Rings and Bases recommendation

I like the one piece Talley rings, lightweight and they look good.

Colorado over the counter for 2022

My buddy and I (we are both from WV, but retired military living out of state) had our 1st CO OTC hunt last year during 2nd rifle. Trust me, I understand you wanting to speed up your learning curve. 2020 had some huge fires and it was very dry with little green veg where we hunted. We saw many...

    Best broadhead for elk?

Another vote for Slick Trick Viper Tricks. Strong design and very sharp.

270 Win 150gr Interlocks pet loads?

My 270 shoots great with 150gr partitions and H4831. I’m sure it will be good with the Interlocks too. I recently bought 5 lbs of Ramshot Hunter so l’m eager to see how it performs as well.

    Optics/Bullet for First Elk Tag

I would play around with some other bullets like Accubonds, TTSX, or partitions. Your Leupold is plenty good, but so is the NF. 30-06 should serve you well, but I’m the last guy to discourage the purchase of a new rifle. If a new rifle is what you want then go that route.
