    2021 Spring Turkey hunting

They can still be had for a decent price! I like my guns to be very utilitarian. My Nova is used for everything - ducks, geese, turkey, pheasants, etc.

    2021 Spring Turkey hunting

Public land mountain turkey! The first double bearded one I've taken too. Called him in from 200ish yards away. He came in spitting and drumming. It appears he read the script.

Yowza. Sounds like I need to plan a trip to Maine next spring!

Dang! Nice work with the kokanee! Are you putting them on the smoker? Are they decent table fare, even during the spawn? I think the confusion stemmed from the fact that I said "Flathead" and not other portions of NW Montana. I'm going to give it a go this fall. The destroyed fishing access...

Technically Whitefish (Happy Valley if you’re familiar with the area). If you didn’t like the changes 20 years ago, you’d really be shocked now...it’s changing quickly, like most nice places. I suppose I’m contributing to the problem...

Hello, all. I've lurked on this website for a while now. I'm impressed with the wealth of knowledge here and everyone's willingness to share it. I've recently relocated to the Flathead Valley from Billings and am looking forward to exploring this corner of the state. My two pointing dogs will...

Backpacking Sleeping Bags on a budget

I'm a big guy. My shoulder circumference is such that a traditional mummy bag won't cut it. I've used Big Agnes bags with some success, although the trail weight pushed me to a quilt. I currently use a Katabatic Flex 22 (wide) and love it. It's super comfy. I use it as a blanket in the summer /...

    Controversial Recipe Ingredients

So down with the sharp cheddar and apple pie. One time, as an ice-breaker on a conference call, we had to explain our favorite part of our Thanksgiving meal. Naturally, I said cheese and pie. Everyone erupted, told me I was a repulsive human and that I should be ashamed of myself. Turns out...

How far would you shoot with 10x mag?

I was just about to write that the rule of thumb I was familiar with was 3x per every 100 yards for hunting. As told by my friend, a competition bench rest shooter. I suppose it's more personal preference than anything.

Vortex Diamondback 15x56 or should I spring for the Maven 15x56 ???

I concur with Chris. In my experience with optics, more $$$ is *almost* always better.

    Hello from Laurel, MT

Hey, I know a Paul from Laurel, Montana...I watched him shoot a turkey one spring and a pile of greenheads one fall. Could it be the same one? Welcome!

    2021 Spring Turkey hunting

We're starting to hear gobbles in MT! We saw a group of overzealous jakes firing off the other day. Blows my mind that turkey season is almost here... I love the snow bird picture. I was able to tag one in the snow two years ago. I had elk, mule deer, and (luckily) turkeys all come up to the...
