I also put them in a ice bath when they come out of the smoker, about 10 minutes or so. Wipe dry and hang in fridge 24 to 48 hrs to dry. Vacuum seal before freezing.
It sounds like this is your first time hunting elk in this particular unit. Priority #1 is to find where there are elk. Cover as much ground as possible until you find elk or very fresh sign of elk. When looking for elk in a new area, I'm looking for dark timber, aspens and water.
I'm on my second RoadTrip, first one lasted a good 10 years, but it sat outside uncovered exposed to the elements. There are limitations with that grill but for a quick cook on steaks, burgers, brats etc. it gets the job done. I'm huge fan of weber grills, have 3 of them, but the Q is about...
I just love a tri tip, it's such a versatile cut. Low and slow, indirect over hot coals, or Santa Maria style, all are great. Just make sure to pull it before 130, let it rest for 15 and you have great eats.
Great tread. My father passed in January and have his early 70's, Rem 700 in 7mm. The rifle has a Redfield widefield 3x9 on it from the same time period. Have not had a chance to get it out to the range yet, but would really like to keep the setup if all is still good.
Nothing for me this year, really was not expecting to draw anything. Burned my Elk points last year, still don't have enough points for the deer zone I want. Pronghorn I'm middle of the point pack. Sheep I just keep dreaming, maybe someday.
I've had the kilo2800 for a couple years now. No issues, it ranges just about anything out to 1000 yds, after that you need something fairly large and reflective. I think for $250 to $300 its a good bang for the buck.
