So I guess the bull moose my girlfriend killed with the 25-06 and a 115TSX should never have happened? One shot, that little bullet went completely thru both shoulders and exited. Went 25yds and fell over.
You have Barnes confused with Berger.
Barnes hunting bullets are mono copper that expand fairly quickly, but retain nearly 100% of their weight. They penetrate very deeply, and usually exit.
I've had multiple failures with rapid expanders and standard c&c bullets. All I shoot is Barnes in my...
They don't expand "Reliably" at any range. They are a long range bullet that the fanbois have adopted as their pet bullet.
Eldx are completely unreliable inside 250yds, they disintegrate to the point of complete failure.
Having shot and experimented with Barnes for a couple years now, the winning formula seems to be lighter bullets at faster velocity. You have to put aside the old school ideas in bullet weight. Try a 165 or even a 150 next year. They can't disintegrate, so there is no problem in driving them fast.
My experience with Barnes bullets is similar. Lighter bullets going faster works best.
With the velocity of the PRC, I would start with the 175LRX. That would still get a MV over 3000fps.
I have both the 25-06 and a 6.5CM. With Barnes 100TTSXs the 25-06 shoots noticeably flatter to 400 than the CM with 127LRXs. No difference in felt recoil been the two.
The Tikka is a much better rifle than a Remington.
