Exotics in Texas with a wheelgun

What kind of bullet was that again?

    What is a Bucc-ees?

Oh my heavens yes. Have made a 100 mile detour to eat here. The meat, the sauce, the beans. Driving to San Antonio Friday from West Tx and now I have to change my route.

    Aiming Under Deer

I've shot 30+ whitetails with a bow. Probably 80% have been does. Does have always been much more prone to "jumping the string" compared to bucks in my opinion. It doesn't help they are so much smaller. Bottom third of the body is not a bad guideline. I've never shot under a deer that was within...

    Fear of Lost Keys

I know of more than one person, including my son, that leaves keys in their F150s. The key fob in his truck only has to be within a certain distance of his truck. There is a way to lift the door handle and with channel lock pliers, break the locking mechanism. Then, all you have to do his press...

    Greatest Shot Ever--A Thread--Post Your's

A group of us were following up a poorly hit doe during archery season. The brush was thick, and she wasn't bleeding much. I decided to swing around, in front of the group, and see if I could see her crossing a clearing. I was 80yards from the clearing when she came walking across. My bow only...

    Granddaddy's Gun

A family group of 10 (brothers, cousins, son-in-laws, nephews) went pheasant hunting in Kansas in 2021. We all had guns our fathers had hunted with and passed down to us. It was an unbelievable collection of Brownings, Parkers (some reproductions), Ithacas: all over-and-unders and side-by-sides...

    The 25 Year Elk Drought

Now that my friends, are what successful hunt pictures should look like: the smile tells it all. I HATE any pictures, where the successful hunter has a scowl on their face or do not appear to be happy with their kill. Well done sir!!

    Age and Elevation

I have heard stories of hunters who have never experienced altitude sickness over 12,000ft and develop symptoms the next time at under 10,000 ft. You never know when it might be you. Take Diamox and stay hydrated.

    Age and Elevation

Diamox, and do not look back. I drive to 9600ft from Tx and backpack in to 11,600ft the same day. Before Diamox, always suffered from headaches and loss of appetite before Diamox. Have been on this trip 5 times on Diamox and have not had ANY problems. Why risk losing any of your valuable...

    What was your worst packout?

I think I’ve told this story before. I was 36 and went on a semi-guided (1 guide for 4 hunters) caribou hunt in Quebec. I shot a bull late on the 2nd day on the other side of a river. The next day, the guide, a 70 yr old hunter from Tennessee and myself went to get my bull. The closest we could...

Colorado Rifle Deer Season for "Above Timberline Only"

Some of those early dates are a little too late to catch them above timberline with velvet. The last time I had that tag, they were hard-horned and in the trees.

Colorado Rifle Deer Season for "Above Timberline Only"

Just saw this thread. As a non-resident, archery hunted unit 82/86 four or five times in the 80s and nineties. Myself or hunting partner had the high country rifle tag in 2002, 2018 and 2019. Tough and physical hunt. NOTHING like it used to be. I am sure there are big bucks available but the...

    One more week until Oryx

Cameras weren’t allowed on WSMR when I shot mine. They even checked our truck. Detect a little jealousy? Good looking oryx.

    One more week until Oryx

In my opinion, absolutely no reason to go guided on WSMR. I understand it is OIL, and the tag for a NR is a bunch of $, but this very similar to antelope hunting. Except a lot bigger animal and a lot bigger gun. Off range I might consider a guide.

    One more week until Oryx

Drew a tag 20 years ago for Red Canyon. It was a one day hunt so the pressure was on. Only thing I can compare the first morning too, after the orientation, was the start of a Bassmaster fishing tournament. Everybody trying to be the first one out of the gate. A 3 day hunt would be fabulous: you...

    Cancelation hunts

In May of 2010 I was looking for a reduced price Dall sheep hunt. Found one in The Huntin Fool that was originally $14,500 I got for $11,600. The outfitter had not planned on hunting a certain drainage in the Brook’s Range, but decided he wanted a presence in a drainage he had hunted for years...

    2022/2023 Trapping Thread

Feel for ya. Probably had close to 15 over the last 12 years with 2 visits to the ER. One time in the ER I mentioned to the Dr. that I heard it was similar to having a baby. He laughed and totally disagreed explaining nobody volunteers to have another kidney stone.

    Blood tracking dog

Had a friend who had a daschsund that used to blood trail for us. We had an archery only lease and we never looked for our deer before we let the dog run the blood trail. It was amazing and awesome to see that little dog perform. Occasionally there was a live one at the end and it was almost...
