That a great plan, add to your gear each year with a significant upgrade. I've thought about the Sat Comm devices. Used to like going off on my own, but times change and maybe now I am wiser about all the things that could happen.
I was out in 3K today, didn't see anything and darn if the temperature didn't drop like 15 degrees in 10 minutes this afternoon and I wasn't really prepared. I hadn't been to 3K before so was just a high-level macro "scout" getting familiar with the area. Next weekend will go north of there...
In this spirit, just talk to the guy. Y'all thought well enough of each other to go on a cool hunt together, this must be just bad communication, or not wanting to mix business with pleasure, or maybe he felt like he'd be imposing on you (for whatever reason). Either way, go talk, treat it as...
I've got a 2.5-8x36 on my 270. Equivalent to the Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36mm. Shot pronghorn in ND and deer near Ekalaka, MT so fits your scenario. I like the 2.5 lo-end because sometimes the deer are in the woods and shots shorter and I like the wider field of view. 8x is enough for me on the...
Welcome to the group. I may be out there too looking for bear in the same areas. haven't decided for sure. Not sure exactly what I'd do with a bear if'n I actually was so fortunate to get one. I did see one couple years back coming down from a backpack hike. Saw lots of sign, only one...
I know what you're saying, but for what it's worth, although it doesn't say it on the NY Dept of Enviro Conservation website, almost 100% of the public state lands I've visited so far in this part of my state have posted no target shooting. So that'll be next, ranges have to have mitigation...
I pulled the trigger today on my new-to-me (used) 300 Win mag and am looking forward to it. I got a good price, a fair price, but with care it should hold it's value or even appreciate. Like you, used some of my available cash. Gun prices are a bit cyclical, Jan Feb oftentimes good. We'll see...
Wow, I'm out of touch with today's fishing gear!
But for hunting, it's like golf... someone says they want to start golfing, they don't go spend $3000 on a custom fit etc... any old putter will do, they don't need to play in the rain, a used set of good clubs are better than a new set of...
I'm leaning to do the same, hire some help. I think of it as buying time. It's what Big Fin says, you'll run out of health before you run out of money. Researching now so I don't get screwed with a bad guide. Had one already go way bad once I started digging into the details.
That said, I did...
For me, I shoot better with less adjustments. Maybe I'm just a head-case, (ha!) but seriously, one less thing to mess with helps me focus better on the target, pardon the pun.
Thanks, yeah. have fixed 4 power on my 222, that was my -20F lying in the snow calling predator gun. I don't do that anymore so was thinking maybe swapping things around. Tinkering you know... I hear you on the blue vs matte thing. And yes, all about functionality, but just a bit to form...
I've searched and come up short. All the usual suspects, Leupold, Nikon, Bushnell, Burris seem to be out of the fixed power scope business. Leup has a 6 x 42mm but it's rather large, I find their 6x36mm on ebay but commands a pretty penny.
Am I too out of the game, time to turn the page and...
Wonder how this will even be enforced. Especially when you factor handloading into the equation. Scenario, out of state hunt, returning with leftover handloads. for whatever reason you're stopped. Hey buddy, where' you get all this out of state ammo? Is there a presumption of guilt?
