    2023 Colorado draw results Moose/Prong/Elk/Deer

I'm glad Colorado is careful in how they release results. The system that works doesn't need changed. Definitely better to be careful than end up with a situation like this...

    Beware the Portland Pizza

I understand, I'm sure there are a lot of moving parts. POW is a beautiful place, I hope you get a little fishing in on the trip as well. Or at least get to eat some.

    Beware the Portland Pizza

Get well soon Randy! Thoughts and prayers for a fast recovery! In regards to the hunt have you considered going along as an observer and maybe presenting the hunt through the eyes of an observer? I generally agree with the mantra hunt until you can't but when you're talking about shooting left...

    Beware the Portland Pizza

Get well soon Randy!! Holy smokes I hate eating out anywhere, definitely staying away from any Portland pizza. If you get any time maybe you could convince the CO CPW to stock the Mexican wolves instead of the greater Yellowstone Canadian monsters:)) They are knee deep in wolf meetings in...

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

Mule deer populations are directly related to winter food availability. 50% of winter food for mule deer is browse, check out the attached pic from the book "Wild migrations". If you look at old videos of hunts, vacations, John Denver playing the guitar, etc.. you'll see that logging was a big...

    Podcast on wounding

I like the idea as well. 1) A guy that wounds an animal shooting long distance or taking a risky shot with a bow is more likely to do that again, maybe multiple times on the same hunt. 2) The hunter still has the opportunity to pursue the wounded animal.

What would you do with 25 Elk Points and 25 Deer Points in CO

We went 1 for 2 in 1st season CO bulls, a 4x4, tasted great! Just asking about the 25 pt guys that started the thread... Btw, I hope you get a hunter survey card, that was good stuff :)

Ran into this thread and was curious on how the hunt / hunts went?

    Colorado wolves….

Great point above on the Mexican wolves in NM. I've written the CPW several times regarding the reintroduction of the wolves. The current issue that may determine the future of hunting in Colorado will be which wolves get released in Colorado. New Mexico has reintroduced the Mexican wolf. The...

Wyoming Game and Fish Commission Approves Chronic Wasting Disease Management Plan

I would like to see the captive cervid populations addressed as the cause of CWD. Once the cause is addressed then action can be taken to mitigate future spread. For example in Colorado, jurisdiction of captive cervids transitioned from the CPW to the Colorado Department of Agriculture in...

    Single shot 22

I picked up a used Anschutz .22 single shot with a bolt action. I absolutely love that gun. You would likely have to look at used inventory but the one I picked up was not pricey. Great idea on getting a .22!

    Mule deer winter feed?

Recently I was checking out "Wild Migrations", an awesome book about many of the migrations in Wyoming. I ran across something that I found really interesting, according to the statistic listed in the book (included in the pic below) 50% of mule deer feed in the winter is browse. I'm from PA...

    New Member from Pennsylvania

Welcome! The PA elk hunt is definitely worth applying for, archery just started in 2019 and check out the first archery bull: https://www.grandviewoutdoors.com/elk/first-ever-archery-elk-taken-in-pennsylvania From experience I can tell you the PA elk hunt is not a slam dunk by any means, the...

Nearly impossible to draw Wyo. Antelope areas

I think the best way to pick a high point unit is to check it out. Your idea of getting a second choice makes sense so while you're there just plan on scouting some other areas for future hunts.

Quick question for food plot experts

I would manually remove the debris as best you can, lime heavily a couple months before you plant, and include your favorite food plot seed but be sure to include OATS so it definitely gets a good spring jump. Mulching helps too if you can. The oats work great with clover or alfalfa around...

Montana game farm under quarantine after an elk tested positive for CWD

This information from Merck was a great read. It doesn't say CWD started here, but it does give a good history and answers a number of questions. https://www.merckvetmanual.com/nervous-system/chronic-wasting-disease/overview-of-chronic-wasting-disease Wildlife departments across the country...

Bureau of Land Management Seeks Help Increasing Access to Public Lands

    Budget Binoculars

I really like the Vortex Diamondback 12x binos. I've used them for about 3 years now and the little extra magnification over the 10x seems to help.
