    2022-2023 Waterfowl Pics Thread

Great pictures guys. Love the full color birds --- especially that cinammon teal. Have not posted this years adventures. I added a pup so at 4 months he was out with us Duck hunting and managed his first retrieves on water. At the start I would only send him on teal. Then Gadwall and on...

    Pheasant Hunting Without Pheasants

Nothing wasted on a walk about with dogs in the outdoors and not smelling gunpowder. Still a great day and I have experienced a few similar. Nice shotgun.

    Tagged out and grateful

Congratulations . Very nice. Something about that tractor vs a sled or a backpack ---- very nice way to come back with a load.

    Doe killers?!!?

The area we hunt is a borderline CWD zone so special licenses for does are readily available for control of herd size. Also our rancher friends want the numbers brought down. So yes does are on the hit list and taste very good.

    Flock Shooting, Does It Work?

Shrapnel - great pictures. Nice to see the generations getting out together and enjoying the outdoors. Love the wood on those old guns. I do admit to deliberately flock shooting a few times - particularly snow geese (safe as our limits are high) when I see them ball up when they are passing...

    Hooked and a Smile

Hooked I took my son (Jesse) out today for his first pheasant hunt. This was a preserve hunt and I asked for the birds to be placed in difficult cover to work Finn. As we had the site to ourselves there was a lot of ground and varied cover to go through. 15 Birds were placed 2 hours...

    His First Pheasants

Nice job on getting the young fellow introduced and I assume from the smile he is now hooked to the sport.

Last Public Land Hunt for the year

Finn and I got out last week for a 4 day combo hunt -- anterless deer (draw) and pheasants. Weather ranged from very nice the first day to blowing snow to fog for the next three. Fields and side roads had heavy drifting with drifts well above the knees which limited access. We had a very...

    Playing in the snow

Playing in the snow -- It is a bit of a drive for us now with the northern sites closed and we had to deal with a section of icy highway. With weather changing I am not sure if this will be our last pheasant hunt of the year or not. Finn did very well finding 4 birds buried in deeper cover...

First time pheasant hunt, but definitely not the last

Nice - great to see the whole family out. Great family picture. I understand what you say on big game -- it is like a constant itch. Luckily we have an overlap season in the south part of the province so this past week harvest a deer and a couple of pheasants. I hope to do the same again...

    Little boykin’s first waterfowl hunt

Very nice. I have always had a fond spot for Boykin's just our winters would be tough on them. Keep up the great work.

    Melanistic pheasant

I am in Alberta and this is the first year for the add of melanistic birds to the releases. I think the numbers were 1500 out of the 20,000 + released over 42 different locations. Pheasants in Alberta do not have much of a change on survivability through the winters, unless they are in the...

    Melanistic pheasant

Here is another picture with a little better shot on the coloring and size. All of the melanistic birds I have seen have very weak tails. However the feathering just above the tail is very impressive. For a large upland bird they do break out of cover quick and are fast. They also like...

    Melanistic pheasant

This years provincial release program has a number of Melanistic pheasants being released at various sites across the province. While we have had a very successful pheasant season we had not encountered one in the field. I had seen a few harvested ones and had hoped to come across one...

Best Muzzleloader Bullet for Bull Elk?

I have taken 7 moose, 2 caribou and 2 elk with either a Barnes 250 or 290 T-EZ over 100 grains of 777. Very accurate load from my TC Pro Hunter. Majority of shots have been 80 to 150 yds with only one moose at 200.

Tell us about your elk failures

Randy11 - painful --- reads like my learning curve on hunting turkeys. My very first time hunting elk --- advice I got was spend the pre-season spotting, opening day get in before dark and ambush them leaving where they are feeding. Area I was drawn for was ES and foot power access only...
