We have hunted 3rd season at 6,400-7,000 feet. Honestly I don't know how much higher they will be during 2nd season but they start to arrive at this lower elevation the end of October. Check the CO website. I've not seen them, but I've heard they have maps showing mule deer ranges, wintering... -

I've never hunted that early (we always hunt 3rd season) and I imagine the deer will still be up higher than what I am accustomed to. If you are going to be hiking in each day, I'd suggest hunting an area with limited vehicular accessibility. -

African Plains Game
If you shoot it well, it's plenty for most plains game (I'm not sure I would want to rely on it for eland though). However, some PHs get a little edgy with anything under a 30 cal. Left hand semi-auto shotguns
I shoot lefty and the choices are slim. However, when getting ready to pull the trigger on a left handed action semi auto that was a bit pricey, I realized that reloading and working the action is a much easier with a right-handed action semi-auto than a left. Just something to think about. -
Blood Stained Pack
Soaking in COLD water for a long period will help your pack last longer than subjecting it to a pressure washer. Truck rentals?
We rented from Enterprise in Denver and got a 4x4 pickup. I seem to recall that they would not guarantee a 4x4 but they had quite a few. However, we were on an early flight in. My have been different had we been on an afternoon flight. -
Left handed rifle suggestions
I think they stopped making the left handed Model 70s when they closed the New Haven, CT facility (which I think was around 2006 or 2007). Prior to that I believe they made them for many years. I have a 300 WM, 375 H&H and a 7mm WSM (unfired and soon to be listed on Gun Broker). -

Anyone hunt with 6.5 PRC?
A bit off PRC topic but I recently purchased a Christensen Arms Ridgeline in 6.5 Creedmore. It comes with a muzzle break but I've never used it. Don't need to. Elk and Mule Deer Success in Colorado
One of the vouchers restricts the hunter to "private land only". The other voucher was unit wide. Not sure if it is a ranching for wildlife property. Left handed rifle suggestions
I did and I love it. I debated between the .308 and the 6.5 Creed and settled on the 6.5 as the ballistics out at distance were really not that much different.
