I called in a lone cow with a calf distress this year. It can definitely be done. I don’t know that I’d try it on a herd or large group, but small numbers of cows would probably be interested.
I'm up in the Portland area, so pretty dense vegetation for spot and stalking rabbits. I was planning on heading out to Central Oregon for some coyote/cougar calling sometime soon though. I'll have to bring the double deuce now too!
Things that worked:
E-Scouting- Spent countless hours on Onx finding what I thought might be productive elk spots- one ended up being where I shot my first elk.
Boots on the ground scouting- Onx narrowed everything down quite a bit, but it couldn't replace actually getting out there and...
Man that sounds like a ton of fun! Probably a good way to kill some time here in the Oregon high desert through the winter when other seasons are closed. Were you using a .22?
I see a couple different sizes on the line you provided, what size are you using? And does it interfere with the straps on your pack at all? That’s solution seems pretty good though, that case you linked seems a lot less bulky than the one that comes with the G7.
Maybe one day, but for now I’m gonna stick with it and cut weight in other areas. I’m not really into long range hunting, but I have a ton of confidence in this rifle out to 400-500 yards depending on conditions. Until I decide to move to a new setup, it’s just another motivational tool to keep...
If the rifle didn’t weigh almost 14 pounds as it currently sits now, I might consider it! The thing is a hog but it’s well sorted out, a good shooter, and I’m still young enough to carry it, but I don’t think it needs to be any heavier!
Anyone else using a big ‘ol ballistic range finder and not sure how to carry it? I have the Gunwerks G7 and it doesn’t even come close to fitting in a standard range finder attachment for any bino harnes that I’ve seen. I tried attaching to the hip belt on my pack, but it wasn’t as accessible as...
We’re both in pretty good shape already (he’s probably in better shape than I am to be honest,) but we’ll be putting in the effort in the next 10.5 months to really prepare. I’ll be talking to some of my buddies who don’t hunt to see if they’d be interested in backpacking into the unit to do...
It was a slow day at work, so I managed to find the time to read this thread in its entirety today. My father was telling me a few days ago about his Colorado elk/deer hunt this year, which wasn't as fun as it could have been for him for a few reasons. We were kicking around ideas of what we...
Eberlestock Just One Pack- $200 OBO
I’ve only used it on one hunt, it’s a great day pack but it doesn’t really work too well for packing in camp and going backpacking hunts. Went with an SG pack and this one just sits. I’d say very good to great condition, no noticeable flaws.
Kuiu Vias...
As long as you have a decent optic, you can adjust your scope to to where the gun hits. As long as your rifle is precise, your scope can make it accurate.

You only need to apply for archery tags in a handful of units in Oregon, all others are OTC. Both the Rogue and Applegate units are OTC, but I’m not sure that those are the units that I’d focus on if I was given the option. There is definitely better OTC archery elk hunting to be had in other...
Interesting, and definitely good to know. I'll have to make sure we apply as a party when we put in. We're going in with 0 points. Thanks for the info!
