Those fish-stuffed brown bears are big but they have the temperament of a fat guy at the Golden Corral chocolate fountain. The interior grizzlies down here are more like an Indiana truck stop crackhead. Sure they'll probably run but if they don't you're in for a rude awakening.
Unless you're a bullseye champion a handgun is just a glorified security blanket anyway.
Buy whatever's on sale, shoot a box of shells a month, and pay more attention when you're outside.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure in bear country.
I've seen small slides in early November up there. Nothing you would have to worry about. Not to say that it is impossible. A couple guys got swept in the bridgers early-season a few years ago but survived
Rock slides in scree fields over cliff bands are a much bigger danger. They go hand in...
Whatever happened to that smartass who was giving out awards a while back? I'm sure someone losing their phone, killing a ram, and not having a single field photo would be worthy of something.
I leave the unlimited tag out of my order when I buy/apply for the rest of my licenses online. Then I go buy one at Walmart. If I ever kill one of those rams I'm framing the Walmart receipt right next to the mount.
You have mentioned in the past increasing unlimited opportunity. While I would love it for my own opportunity, I believe that is becoming more unrealistic as well. Any unit where animals can be patterned is not fit for unlimited opportunity as the population increases. This was the case with the...
I see what you're saying YoungGun, but if I'm completely honest, I think cubing points and a preference system is a bad idea. I think any measure that gives people the idea that they will draw if they put in long enough is foolish. There just aren't enough animals for that to be a reality. I...
I think another big part of this discussion is when those guys drew their tags. My dad has drawn two moose and a goat, his friend has drawn two goats and two moose, and his friend also drew two goats and two moose. They were all work friends.
However,
Many of those tags were drawn way back in...
If you want to have a live thread that gives the infamous marmot hunt a run for it's money, you could always go the falcon route. Neighbors will probably have no idea what falconry is and just watch in horror as the pigeons start falling out of the sky.
Does anyone know how raptors react to copper plated shot? I have been hunting coyotes with some old copper-plated lead loads from the old goose days? Would the copper coating prevent the raptors from crushing the lead and absorbing it?
I was leaning towards the Browning as well. My dad has always had slight hoarding tendencies when it comes to reloading components. Ammo thankfully would not be an issue. I have had good luck on coyotes shooting 2 oz BB loads in a 3" 12 ga. I think you could cook up a mean load similar to that...
Not to detail the thread but I was wondering if any HT'ers have had experience with both SP-10s and the Browning's? I have no need for a 10 gauge but have always been fascinated by them. I rarely hunt geese but feel like coyote hunting would be a good enough excuse for one.
It...
