    Hunt recap - first elk

That was a great write up and thanks for taking the time. It's really nice to go along with the ups and down of the hunt, and even better with an outcome like that, so congrats! How did your buddy take the news, haha!

    Montana shoulder seasons

I appreciate hearing the other side of things for sure, and that there are opportunities. My archery elk hunt in MT was a blast, and I'm still trying to scratch that itch, even though this would be a totally different beast. I don't mind cold and deep snow hunting, and part of this open...

    Montana shoulder seasons

Lots of feedback, some off topic a bit, but interesting to know what folks thought are on these late season hunts, reasoning, objectives, etc, so thanks. Bottom line is that I guess I will not be looking at flights for Jan/Feb to elk hunt.

    Montana archery

Oh man, that's tough about the missing the two bulls! I'd be sick to my stomach. I've been hunting for a long time, but this elk stuff is new and so addicting, haha! Good luck next year.

    Montana shoulder seasons

Since I was unsuccessful during archery, I still have an elk tag burning a hole in my pocket. Work and family commitments are keeping me from getting back out to MT this fall, but I'm wondering about the shoulder seasons that run into even mid-February for cows. Is it worth giving it a shot...

How to fly with your weapon?

Even flying into Bozeman, they bring your checked firearm to you at the ticket counter, or little office next to the baggage carousel. I fly out of Boston a lot with my firearm and have the TSA regs on the phone just in case there are questions. Once the ticketing agent who checked that my...

    Montana archery

I did an archery elk unit in Montana 9/13 - 9/22, and even though we did not get a bull, I had an absolute awesome time! For a tent, we used a slumberjack outpost 4 man tipi. We split the weight (about two pounds each) and this worked really well and to be honest, this was a great set up for...

    Tracking elk in the snow?

The best part about tracking (besides knowing theres a potential shooter animal laying down those tracks) is not knowing where you'll end up, and potentially seeing some amazing new country. But to some it's overwhelming, and probalby a little scary.

    Tracking elk in the snow?

If you have the wind in your favor and they are not spooked, it sure as hell wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot! I would use the same approach as tracking whitetails, creeping and scanning the woods looking for an ear or antler.

    Pump Rifles

I love my two 7600 30-06 carbines, and I don’t believe you’ll find a better brush gun out there, especially for hunting whitetails in the north east. One is topped with a leupold 1-4x, and the other has a Williams peep. I love the peep sight when tracking whitetails in snow!
