How many deer can you kill in your home state?

As mentioned above, Ohio is a one buck State. I thought these harvest stats for the 2023-2024 season were interesting. Ohio’s statewide deer harvest, by year: 2023-24: 213,928 2022-23: 210,973 3-year average (2020-2022): 201,890 Ohio’s 2023-24 statewide deer harvest, by individual season...

    Fixing Western Hunting

For what it’s worth, I whole heartedly agree with Randy regarding increasing the herds. In my original posts I didn’t emphasize that, but meant to address it in the limitation of one Elk/Mule deer tag per year and the idea of “Boots on the ground” programs that work toward that goal.

    Fixing Western Hunting

I don’t want to criticize anyone’s response, but maybe if you think the ideas stink, through out some different ideas. Perhaps you think the idea of Federal Public Land licensing as proposed is too drastic. Maybe a certain percentage of Public land (50%) then would be more palatable. This...

    Fixing Western Hunting

The ideas I put forward in the original Post where not necessarily meant to expand NR hunting opportunities. I do advocate for the Federal Public Land license wherein hunters would compete for tags on a near equal basis, at an equal cost, regardless of residence. This idea is meant to reach...

    Fixing Western Hunting

Im going way out of character in making this post. I know there is a good chance that I will regret it. I've been a member here for many years, and have been reading the forum on a very regular basis for that entire time, although I rarely post. I recently read carefully the long thread...

    Bandsaw mill

I’ve had a Woodmizer LT15 diesel since 2009. It’s a manual mill, but is capable of good production. It’s been close to flawless.

Non-resident Hunting and the North American Model

Should an Elk tag intended for public land only, cost the same as an Elk tag intended for private land with or without a guide? Should a first time non- resident hunting license be discounted in an effort to increase opportunities and get more people invested?

Drury dropped by PSE makes switch to Mathews

I rarely post, but I’m a regular reader here for at least three years. I’m not a big hunting show guy, but I’ve seen enough to know that the Drurys are really, really good at what they do. I have no doubt that they sell a lot of product. Much like Randy to his audience. I think it’s fair...

    Point of diminishing returns

I once read a birdwatching article, where many binocular reviews are done, where experts were convinced that the mid price range binoculars ($1,000 range) were not worth the money, compared to the Nikon Monarch ATBs for around $300. They concluded that you have to go to the very top to get...

Whitetail Question - Shoulder Mount or No?

If money wasn’t an issue, I always went with a shoulder mount. As I look back at those mounts, as compared to skull caps, it brings memories into sharper focus. I never regretted having those mounts, but I do regret a few that I didn’t. And I’ve mounted Ohio deer smaller than yours.
