I am not a sworn officer; I do work in public safety. Some observations “from the field” in IA:
-DA’s/ by and large no longer prosecute MJ-related crimes, with exceptions of offenses associated w/ other crimes (e.g. sex offenders luring or drugging children), and cooperation in multi-agency...
Similar to many folks who came of age during Prohibition, I was pretty well indoctrinated through the anti-drug messaging of the 1990’s, which included MJ. I doubt I will ever turn the corner on the subject.
Objectively, I’ve seen many persons with medical conditions benefit from treatment with...
I got picked up by a car like this when I was hitchhiking in Georgia. The guy spent 10 mins digging out a person-size hole for me to perch on before I got in. Real nice guy!
Wrapped up at noon, 15 birds seen, at least 11 unique. 5 jakes at 85, they seemed wary and didn’t come in. Toms were henned up the whole time.
Earlier in the week I hunted one of my fall spots. Saw 6 birds feeding on the way in but I pushed forward too close and got busted. Later called in 2...
4 AM wake-up call. Mile hike in with full packs. We listened to the roost gobbles for about a half hour and she fell asleep.
I woke her up to watch a couple strutters through the binos. Hopefully later this AM they get restless and check out our decoys 🦃

You can add the leaves to salad, or substitute for half of the basil in pesto. It’s very mild. The stems are bitter. The tiny flowers are sweet like honeysuckle. My kids just pick and eat the flowers.
It’s a non-native early spring...
Last day hunts are always special - congrats!
Pulled my stands yesterday, late, finally. No mushrooms yet, but did see 20 turkeys, incl. 5 fighting toms. I’ll be out next weekend w/ my daughter.
9/9/23. I bumped him at 10 yards in thick cover, and he walked away. I wondered if perhaps he was sick or injured.
4/13/24, 150 yards away. Still in velvet. I’m guessing he died within 2 weeks of when I saw him alive.
See post #13.
If by scent control you mean reducing your scent, don’t attempt it. I wish I had someone give me that advice 25 years ago. Instead of learning about how a deer’s nose works, thermals, and topography, I focused on “scent products”. I fed entirely into the marketing narrative...
Good times. I think I’m 7 weeks with my only outdoor exposure shoveling the front walk. Today a coworker asked how turkey season was going and I wasn’t aware it had started.
Everyone enjoy your free time!!
