I did the same trip as you are looking at, live in north central Illinois and drove to wyoming for my first pronghorn hunt, my brother and I had 2 points and put in for a unit I will PM to you it was listed as "limited access" but had no problem at all filling our tags did 2 bucks day 1 and 1...
I second chris, if tight on cash the axis is a very solid rifle and if you do buy an axis make sure to get the model with an accutrigger, later you can add a new stock to it for a few hundred and have that thing shooting sub MOA groups easy
great read! i just came back from my first trip as well and its amazing the amount of crap you bring on your first hunt that you dont need. my brother and i brought my full sized truck with a cap on it and i damn near had the bed filled to the top, i learned i could easily bring 70% less gear...

Well as with most people I chose Wyoming Pronghorn to be my first "Western" Style hunt.
