    Wyoming Region R Deer

Got back from Wyoming last weekend. I will type up a quick report from our trip here: Thursday afternoon 10/13 we arrived in SE Unit 46. We hiked up into the mountains about 4 miles and found a good camping spot. Got camp situated that night and went out for a scouting day glassing session on...

    Wyoming Region R Deer

I may give the warden a call. Just out of curiosity at this point.

    Wyoming Region R Deer

Quick question. We are non-residents so are obviously not allowed to hunt the wilderness area, but can we set up camp in the wilderness area with our hunting gear as long as we don't actively hunt there, or since we have rifles and a tag in our pocket would that still be considered "hunting"...

    Wyoming Region R Deer

We definitely want to at least start up high in the national forest, but understand that weather will determine whether the deer are there or not. I have been looking at the south east part of the region. Any thoughts?

    Wyoming Region R Deer

My buddy and I drew Region R deer tags this year and will be heading out there in October for the rifle opener. We are super excited as this will be our first time targeting mule deer. Who else will be in Region R hunting deer this fall? We understand that we will have plenty of company and...

    PA deer season begins!

Hunted four days in Delaware State Forest, Pike county. Didn't see a single deer. Heard very little shooting, especially given the concurrent buck/doe season this year, and bear being open as well.

Backcountry Hunting with Extreme Dietary Restrictions (PKU)

Yeah True, boiling is not necessary, but the powder defines mixes better when the water is warm. But, yes it would probably be better to just use already cool, filtered water.

Backcountry Hunting with Extreme Dietary Restrictions (PKU)

Myself and a buddy have accumulated a few deer points in Wyoming, and are planning on a rifle mule deer hunt in Wyoming next fall. We want to make it a backcountry backpack style hunt. The issue I am facing is that I have a genetic disorder called Phenylketonuria (PKU). This disorder prohibits...

    Mystery Ranch Metcalf Question

I got in contact with them and they sent me a yoke with straps. I'm struggling to get the yoke actually inserted into its slot though. It seems like an extremely tight fit. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to attach it?

    Mystery Ranch Metcalf Question

Thanks guys. I'll give them a call today.

    Mystery Ranch Metcalf Question

Yes it has a belt. I just can't understand why it wouldn't have straps.

    Mystery Ranch Metcalf Question

It's got neither of those. I guess I'll definitely have to make a call tomorrow.

    Mystery Ranch Metcalf Question

I just recieved my metcalf that I ordered a week or so ago from Mountain Archery, and upon unboxing I noticed that the pack didn't have any shoulder straps attached. I figured they were probably stowed in one of the pockets and that I'd just have to attach them, but I can't find them anywhere...

    Backcountry sleeping bag

rbljack, What sleeping pad do you have? I agree that the pad is just as important as the bag. I was planning on getting a therm-a-rest.

    Backcountry sleeping bag

This is something I definitely plan on doing. If I need something different from what I end up getting, I'll be able to fine tune the set up before I actually go out to hunt.

    Backcountry sleeping bag

Alright, I think I've pretty much been convinced to go with the warmer bag. Thanks for the input guys!

    Backcountry sleeping bag

What would be a typical night-time low temperature for Wyoming elk country in September? November?

    Backcountry sleeping bag

Thanks for all the feedback! I guess the best thing would be to get 2 bags. One for early season and one for later. I'm a very skinny guy and do get cold fairly easy. Maybe I'll get the 0° bag for now and test it in different temperatures as the weather gets warmer this spring, and then decide...

    Backcountry sleeping bag

I'm trying to get some gear together for an eventual backpacking elk hunt. The hunt will most likely take place during archery season in September, however, I would like to be able to also use the same bag during the rifle season in November if need be. My girlfriend is waiting for me to decide...
