Sorry, can’t help you there. But i would be interested to hear how that hunt pans out and if that part of the state is worth it for muleys, or maybe just a different kind of mule 😬. Good luck
Gathering intel from other experienced hunters is a big part of a game plan. A lot of people don’t come from generations of hunters or are just getting started in it on their own. It’s not always a bad thing to give some information to what could be an eager learner. Information on a unit is a...
Oh I wasn’t sure if it was being downplayed for humor , I think you’ll be very happy with that hunt. If you work hard you’ll find yourself in great bucks in some beautiful country, good luck!
It'll be interesting to see how G&F will enforce this. Back in the day we used to be able to fish the Pecos river ,pretty much unencumbered. All of a sudden cables were being stretched across the river with no trespassing boundaries. made for some long hikes up and around small "private"...
Seeing the same thing in my area near central nm, bucks are starting to push does and rut activity has started to pick up. So far this year, moisture doesn't seem to be much of a factor, there will be some snow up in the high elevations (in spots) but other than that the southern half of the...
What a journey! congrats on the success. As hunters, we could all use a little more of this mindset. I takes a wise man to let nature present itself as it is, and just be happy to have the opportunity to be amongst God's beautiful creation.
During my Second season archery elk hunt I realized that wherever there was fresh cattle sign, there was really old elk sign. Most of these areas were on BLM land and some on FS lands. Near all the water sources where cattle frequented there was little to no elk sign either. But, Glassing into...
If you like to hike, id recommend checking out the Sheridan Gulch area. Old burn scars with plenty of food down in the canyons. and running water in the small stream. Turkey creek road should be able to get you into most of the eastern edge of 22, once you are up there its rugged terrain.
Best of luck! I will be next door in unit 13 at the same time. This whole area has been getting good monsoon moisture throughout the summer. Was out scouting last week and got socked in by a heavy rain storm. Most livestock tanks were full and lots of green grass!
With all the rain we have been getting this summer, water probably wont be key to your strategy. Patterning mule deer in September at that elevation should not be much different from the summer time.
You are absolutely correct about the deer wanting to bed most of the day. I had a muzzleloader...
