The battleship is in drydock being built

Looking great! Enjoying following your project. I did a smaller version of this a couple years ago and really had fun doing it. At that time I didn't know that the tip-out windows were a thing. Great choice. Where did you find them?

Congrats on a nice buck. Kudos for your persistence in recovering that deer. Most of us have taken "less than perfect" shots and we learn from the experience.

What are you guys paying for gas?

$2.09 yesterday in Lake Country area of southeast Wisconsin. With plans for four road trips this year, I'm very happy to see gas prices dropping.

Medical Transport if needed. Are you prepared

I can respect that "get er done" attitude. I have Search and Rescue insurance through Garmin that covers $100,000 of SAR coverage that costs $39.95 per year. Still hope that I never need to push that SOS button.

OnX Connected Hunting Optics a step too far

This! This is exactly what I do after the shot. Drop a waypoint where I took the shot, drop a pin where the animal was standing and turn on the waypoint radius with the distance from my rangefinder. This technique provides great confidence to locate the start of the blood trail. Much better...

Which western states have been disproportionately good to you in drawing tags?

My shout-out goes to Wyoming. I have been fortunate enough to draw some tags in Wyoming that have provided some outstanding hunting adventures for elk and antelope. Thank you, Wyoming, for providing great opportunities for this NR hunter!

    Best whitetail state

Depends upon how you define "best" whitetail hunting. Wisconsin has over 1.5 million acres of public land with very easy access and way over 1 million whitetails. Licenses are cheap, OTC and you will get at least one doe tag to go along with the buck tag. Not bad. You will also have lots of...

    Rock Hounding

Those are some great finds. Rock-hounding adds such a fun dimension to any outdoor activity. It would be hard to imagine traveling anywhere and not bringing home some cool new specimens. My rock collection might take over my entire house someday. When my grandchildren come to visit the first...

Hunting Solo by choice or circumstance

I get you. I also grew up in Wisconsin and had similar experiences. While it may be a sad commentary on our state culture, I have also moved on to become a "scientific sportsman" and hunt solo by a choice. Last November I killed a bull elk solo, diy, public land at the age of 64. Not planning to...
