Caribou Drop Camp

Cooler Size
Even the 100’s were to heavy. I just need it for transport in the back of the truck. I can drive right up to the freezer. No need to move the cooler thank God.- tmike51

Last fall I killed a 4yr old bull and had to break the quarters down at the joints to fit them into my 100qt coolers. I am going to pick up something bigger and wanted to know what size you think is best. I would like to keep the quarters whole so I can hang them in a walk in freezer to age when...- tmike51

Mule deer vs. Coues
The hardest part of Coues hunting is the spotting. Once you get eyes on they are not overly difficult to harvest, if you can keep eyes on, similar to stalking a mountain muley. They are called the grey ghosts for a reason though, they are small and live in country that can completely hide them... -

How do you use your Antelope Meat???
Everyone has made some excellent points, but they forgot what is in my opinion the prime cut if handled right. The tongue. I like to brine mine for 24hrs then simmer it for 2 to get off the outer skin. Apply your favorite seasoning and smoke as low and smokey as you can for 45 minutes or so. -

how much room for a cape??
I should have included this earlier but I wouldn’t salt a hide you wanted a shoulder mount on. I only salt hides I want rugs out of! Sorry for the lack of clarification! -

If you give the cape a healthy coating of a fine grain non-iodized salt that will help dry it out and delay the rotting process until you can get it to the butcher. I kept an antelope hide in a cooler over ice for a week in 80+ weather and the taxidermist said it was as good as a cape that had... -

Favorite Pronghorn round ?
I use a Ruger American Predator in .308 Win topped with a Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x50, shooting 165gr Nosler Trophy Grade Accubonds. I have taken several Elk, a couple Mullies, a couple bears, a dozen Whitetails, and a pair of Pronghorn with the exact same set up. -

Archery OTC in CO in August with my Hoyt Turbo, then WY in Oct with my Ruger American Predator in .308 topped with a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50 shooting 165gr Nosler Trophy Grade Accubonds.
