Wasn't there a "Hunt-talk weekly" podcast episode a while back where Marcus interviewed a former peer of his from biologist school, and the dude mentioned that research suggests that elk populations are down in NW MT due to cessation of logging?
At the end of last fall season, MT decided that they needed to split up region 4 into multiple units, and each of those units have their own separate quota
I understand that having quality rings is good in this situation, but what exactly do those scope brands provide in this scenario that Leupold, Vortex, or other common scope manufacturers don't? (for the record, I am in fact mounting a NF)
Y'all are awesome. Thank you for confirming what I already wanted to do. With that said, has anybody had any issue with a 300 WM having enough recoil to mess with your scope due to the high amount of recoil? Especially when using a heavier scope?
Someone of reasonable mindset please tell me what y'all do? Most tactical, over zealous tactical rifle folks act like you want to worship the devil when you suggest mounting rings directly to the factory dovetail. Others argue that in removing the need for a pic rail, you eliminate another point...
I've been somewhat jealous of the bear opportunities that California appears to have. Get you a deer tag and a bear tag and get after it.
I would also imagine that you aren't far from Arizona. Perhaps some easy to draw/OTC coues deer tags are in your future.
Regardless though, as a Texan who...
I recently googled "Ice report, Montana" to try and get an understanding for what lakes were safe to drill holes in. The only info I got was related to immigration.
This is my first year as a Montana resident. I'm extremely excited to take advantage of the opportunities that affords. Specifically the spring turkey, spring bear, and OTC elk. I will also put in for LE tags here as well as some long shots in other states.
Also some friends and I should be...
Good lord, I didn't realize just how overgrown the forest here is until you see what it used to look like. I know that trees are good and everything but having them be this thick can't be good habitat right?
Do you have a recommendation on where to find recent satellite imagery? I have just been using OnX with the default settings.
I never expected to be able to get a vehicle down one of these roads, I always assumed "logging road" meant that it was once upon a time cleared to harvest the trees...
Thanks! And yes this is in the LB mountains near GF MT. (All abbreviated to thwart of google searches).
From my limited experience in here, it seems that most of the forest is pretty overgrown. The place needs more thinning, burning etc.
All that said, when scouting for roads that bears might...
I see a lot of spots that look like this in the National Forests near me, and when I walk them, they look like they were once cleared for something. Are the roads that are indicated by two track dotted lines on onX "logging roads" that people always say to check for springtime bears?
