I want to get started in elk hunting and need some advice

Read the regulations for each state you might be interested in - that will give you an idea on seasons and permits for archery and rifle and areas of each state, cow or bull, draw lottery, or points. Look up Randy's how to e-scout. Get a plan or direction. After plan for the season, example...

    GARMIN inReach SE+ Discount Sale

They have an app for smart phone that syncs bluetooth and runs together if wanted. Type from your phone to send a custom message instead of using the GPS toggle switch(I really don't mind because you aren't have a conversation). The app on the phone works as a GPS, it's free. OnX is better...

    GARMIN inReach SE+ Discount Sale

Just activated it, and tested. Very impressed so far. Still learning it though, but pairing it with maps on your phone is really cool too, and the ability to use your phone to type a message rather than the GPS unit is a plus too. After season I'll post more of what I liked or issues. So far...

    archery practice routines

I will normally shoot a cold set of 5, do a series of push ups and shoot 5, series of jumping jacks shoot 5, rest, shoot one more round and be done. I'm not trying to fatigue myself, but more elevate heart rate.

    Mule deer habitat

I would say depends on state and region, if you're hunting a forested area and you found a small area with no trees, chances are they'll randomly pass through there from time to time but stay in the trees or feed in and out. Large area of no trees in a mule deer area they are alive because they...

    GARMIN inReach SE+ Discount Sale

Just picked one up at Costco.com $229 and free shipping. It's $170.00 off Cabela's price. Regular price $400.00, must be a member, but costco membership is only $50 I think. Still great savings if you had to sign up for it. It's new, not refurbished too. Stated as supplies last and sale goes...

    Really dry conditions tactics?

look for bright green foliage compared to other areas. Doesn't necessarily mean 'water' but the ground should hold more moisture for food growth, remember, they also get some hydration from what they eat.

    Leupold rifle scopes

If you have tried multiple scope, it's you. Not saying there isn't a lemon in production no matter what company you get, that happens. Take it to a gun shop and ask them reset your scope for you. Ask them to show you how to do it properly. Scopes can usually take quite a bit of rough treatment...

How far to hunt from illegal salt site?

You're right, not sure where I came up with the two week time period. https://idfg.idaho.gov/question/can-wildlife-attractants-be-placed-front-trail-cameras-can-i-place-some-sort-wildlife This is from Idaho State Journal a ways back... Q. A hunter stumbled across a salt block in the...

How far to hunt from illegal salt site?

Putting Salt or any attractant isn't against the law in the off season. I believe it has to be taken out 2 weeks prior to season, and or all the remains must be 100% gone and then a two week period. Technically it should have been pulled by now though. I would still hunt the same area and not...

    What should I expect?

I don't have a spotter, and use a pair of 10x42 Vortex and have never had a problem spotting deer or elk. I am not field judging antler size either though when they are at a max distance. For your first trip, save your money. You may find out later that you prefer a spotting scope, or see if you...

    Tacoma preventative maintenance

Top off fluids, rotate tires, check spare, and get a new jack because of the bottle jack you were given. Or take a couple short 2x6's 12-18" the stack underneath your bottle jack in case of mud, snow, or just need a little higher clearance to start...

    Looking for a Mentor

Make sure to plan a hunt. Don't get ready to get ready, or you'll miss out every year. What you read here and watch on Randy's videos, it looks and sounds simple, the concept really is, and it's doable by everyone. The hunt is up to you on what you want out of it or how hard you willing to work...
